Yes, resist. Think about how you want to regarded on April 2.

I would say to be mean and assign 300 pages of reading and tell them their will be weekly quizes. However, some might drop the class.
Coversely you could tell them that you are there solely for the sake of learning. Hopefully you will make it interesting and they will want to learn. However, either way there will not be tests and they can assign their own grade at the end of the semester...they will be loving life for a few days and than you can break the news:)
