Remember when...

It was 1989. It was a Friday night after a football game. Some bandgeek buddies and I piled into Giant Redhead's truck and went driving. He could drive, the rest of us, not so much. But we were good about chipping in for gas money.

We stopped at the gas station down the street from our local McHangout and began ponying up. Redhead says, "Let's go someplace else. I'm not going to pay 92 cents a gallon when I can get 89 down the road."

Loyal readers, what's the lowest gas price you remember?

We were just talking about that here at work (and it was making me feel very old) because I remember that my first car cost $10 to fill up and that was when I coasted in on fumes.

The number I recall is .86 at the Arco near 185th and TV.

:) I was just thinking about that! My first car was a VW Rabbit, and I never paid attention to gas prices because I always put in "just five bucks please". One time I splurged and asked for ten, but the tank was full before we hit nine dollars.

I don't remember what it was when I was in high school. I do remember not THAT long ago, when I was living in N.C., and it was .98 a gallon. The year was 1997. Just ten years ago. It's about 3.11 here now.

Georgia had some of the cheapest gas. I seem to recall that Augusta could get as low as .89 when other places were in -- gasp -- triple digits.

I distinctly remember seeing prices in Atlanta (Hess station, I think) around .84.

I'm from the northest US, and for the longest time, there was a gas station that closed right before the price hike in 200-0? -1?, that kept its sign saying 89 cents/gallon. I kept forgetting it was closed & pointing it out to my husband as a place to stop.

While I don't remember the lowest price, I remember it not changing from one state to another when we moved in high school.
It was around $1.25 in the state of Oregon. And then in the state of New South Wales it was $1.25. But that was $1.25 Aus. for a litre. Exchange rate was about Aus $1.00 to US $.75

It's nice to be "in" on the coded references. : ) I think I can remember 85 cents. Of course, since I haven't been driving for the last 15 years, gas prices aren't as shocking to me as they probably are to the rest of the world. Still, while I'm currently unemployed, I've been walking or taking the bus as much as possible (though...the bus is $3.40 round-trip to downtown, I'm not sure I burn through that much gas...but, whatever I'm over analyizing. Or maybe under-analyzing.)
