Th-Hers-day... for the ladies... Brain Candy Edition

And a shoutout first and foremost to Elle, who inspired this topic by writing about how she was going to climb into bed with John Higham. You know, but not that way.

Shoutout the second to my mom, who always gets this funny wistful look when she talks about Bill Gates. While clearly, the man is no George Clooney (or Carlos Beltran!), my mom has developed a serious intellectual crush on him. Which got me thinking: smart is sexy, so who is your "Brain Candy"?

My nominations:
And, to beat K-lyn to the punch:

I love to go out dancing
My baby loves a bunch of authors
My heart's broke and bleeding
My baby's just sitting there doing some reading.

Brain Candy, hmm...

I have a not so secret love for Tavis Smiley, though as a labor historian I shouldn't cuz some of his stuff is sponsored by wal-mart.

Robin Kelley always looks mysterious and brilliant--sort of a brain/eye candy mix. I'm intrigued by his move into anthropology (which is probably what I should've done with this topic). Hope for me yet.

and a real life guy who routinely pisses me off but who really is brilliant--his most seductive characteristic to me? his words. does that make me a complete nerd?

Ooh, yeah, Elle. Good call on Robin Kelley. He even makes acknowledgements fun!

Sean Wilentz?! Now I admit it's been a while since I've seen him close up & in person, but about 8 years ago, my exact-words impression of him was that he was "a fat Gary Oldman."

Stewart and Olbermann I can get behind. Of course, my crush on Olbermann dates back to his SportsCenter days with Dan, and my love faded substantially when he left ESPN. And Stewart? Well, there's NOTHING wrong with that. Love the whole package.

Honestly, I don't know what Sean Wilentz looks like, and I wouldn't be able to pick him out of a lineup. But the man can write!

Plus, he's married to Christine Stansell, who rocks my world also.

"I'd rather go to bed with Gabriel García Márquez"

I'm still mulling this over since authors are an obvious choice.

Neil Gaiman is at the top of my list. So not attractive, and yet...

Tim Burton also comes to mind.

Hmmmm...still mulling.
